CHAMA Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has maintained that it will not keep quiet on
matters pertaining to graft and abuse of office irrespective of an
individual’s political party affiliation.
Speaking at a press conference in Dar es
Salaam, the CCM spokesperson, Mr Christopher Ole Sendeka, stressed that
the ruling party fully supports the anti-graft crusade spearheaded by
President John Magufuli.
“It should be very clear, President
Magufuli isn’t doing what he is doing because he wants popularity, but
rather he and his government are working hard so that the Tanzanians get
the development they deserve,” he said.
He was responding to allegations thrown
to his party by the former Prime Minister and past Chadema presidential
candidate, Mr Edward Lowassa, who claimed that public servants that have
been fired or suspended from their positions was due to constraints in
running parastatals.
Mr Ole Sendeka said that Mr Lowassa
claimed that he was saddened by the removal of public employees without
using the proper procedures, but he rubbished the claims calling them
baseless and untrue and that it was only a political gimmick.
He said that the work that has thus far
been done by President Magufuli and his government has received national
and international acclaim, adding that issues related to ironing out
the grievances of the masses cannot be applauded by everyone.
The spokesperson also trashed the
allegations that there was something wrong with the government, saying
that there wasn’t anywhere in the world where a system of a country
works on its own but is run by people who have weaknesses as human
beings and make mistakes that are corrected by laid down procedures.
“CCM has evidence of the leadership of
Mr Lowassa when he was Prime Minister, the way he exercised his power
where he fired and humiliated employees without following procedure, how
he operated is a lot different to how things operate now, today a
person is fired while ensuring all procedures are adhered to,” he
explained.
On Thursday, Mr Lowassa had an audience
with a number of academicians at his residence in Dar es Salaam where he
gave his outlook on the new government, saying that President
Magufuli’s government will be popular for some time but there is no
success story in the economy.
He also was of the view that it wasn’t
the job of the president to allocate funds for different development
projects but rather the National Assembly.
