THE Rukwa Regional Commissioner (RC) , Mr Zelothe Steven, has strongly warned health workers to desist immediately from abusing expectant mothers by insulting them when they arrive at public health facilities for treatment.

The RC insisted that he would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against any health worker who would continue abusing patients mostly pregnant women. “If such health workers defy my warning and continue abusing pregnant women I will be ready to reduce my sleeping hours so that I deal with them squarely, “ added the RC .

The regional boss , has said that in order to match with the required working speed of President John Pombe Magufuli he will sleep for four hours only daily.

During the remaining 20 hours the RC will be carrying out his duties including contemplating on how best to address the numerous challenges the wananchi are facing. Mr Zelothe issued the warning when addressing elders and religious leaders during a familiasation meeting held in Sumbawanga on Thursday.

The meeting was also attended by members of the regional defence and security committee. The RC challenged health workers and civil servants from public institutions in the region to be exemplary in adhering to ethics while executing their daily duties.

“I will not tolerate or hesitate to take disciplinary action against any civil servant who abuses his or her office. Everyone should work hard and adhere to ethical tenets,” said the RC.

Mr Zelothe pointed out that the Fifth Phase Government was determined to restore ethics and the spirit for work on the part of public servants.

He directed regional authorities to take action against workers who are immoral. Several women who attended the meeting testified before the RC that they had spent many hours at hospitals -- sometime more than nine hours -- without being attended or seen by medical workers.
