POLICE have apprehended 63 people in Dar es Salaam for their alleged involvement in armed robbery incidents.
Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Simon Sirro told reporters yesterday in the city that the arrest was a result of a crackdown mounted by law enforcers to rid the city of criminals.
He said some of the suspects were found in possession of four traffic lights, one power window and truck nuts. “All the suspects have admitted being involved in various armed robberies in various places in the city, including Riki Hill Hotel at the city centre and Lake Oil in Buguruni,” Mr Sirro said.
He mentioned some of the suspects as Ibrahim Juma (31), Samweli Mbonea (40), a mechanic, Anthony Kanywenywe (60), a hunter. They are all residents of Kiwalani.
Others are Shafii Mgoa (43), Rajabu Salum (63) and Joseph Michael (34), residents of Vingunguti. In another incident, the police have impounded six weapons including one SMG, three shotgun pumps and a rifle in various places in the city.
He said the SMG was found after police were exchanging fire with suspected bandits at Vingunguti area when they abandoned the weapon which was in a black plastic bag and ran toward Msimbazi River basin.
“We will continue hunting for the suspects and the investigation continues to establish the rightful owner of the guns,” he said. The zonal commander said they also succeeded to impound two rifles in Masaki area that were hidden and covered with towels branded Collessium Fitness Club, one with number A 6777013 registered with number TZCAR 58596,and the other one with number L 691,848,176 registered with number TZCAR75062. Meanwhile, the police force has impounded 15 magazines of a small pistol.
They were found in possession of a man who was identified by the name of Mamboleo Willium (41), a trader and resident of Mikocheni.
During interrogations, the suspect admitted to breaking the law by being in possession of the magazine and failed to explain where he got them, the suspect has been detained and investigations continue to establish where he got them.
