FLOOD DISASTER VICTIMS IN MORO RECEIVE FOOD DONATION FROM PM’S OFFICE

PRIME Minister’s Office through the disaster management department has donated 200 tonnes of maize to 3,128 households in Kilosa district, Morogoro region who were affected by floods in January this year.

This was said recently by Kilosa District Commissioner, John Henjewele during the official visit of the Morogoro Regional Commissioner, Dr Steven Kebwe. Mr Henjewele said Kilosa district was hit by floods nearly three times and caused damage on housing, crops, economic and social infrastructure.

“During the January floods, a total of 3,128 households with 13,367 residents were affected, in which 2,646 houses were submerged and 482 houses were demolished,” he noted.

He also expressed his gratitude to various stakeholders who offered their assistance and material help to flood victims, including the Office of the Prime Minister and non-governmental organization.

The RC instructed the Kilosa District administration to ensure that such assistance was utilised as intended by the government. Dr Kebwe also warned officials who will be found selling maize intended to help flood victims, saying stern measures against them will be taken.
